Spanish conversation and pronounciation (90 h)

The main aim of this course is for the student to improve their oral production and interaction. Students are offered the resources and practical tools required to learn to cope with a wide range of topics and situations naturally and appropriately. In addition, students will work with resources and on specific exercises so that they can express themselves more fluently, with suitable intonation and accurate pronunciation.

METHODOLOGY

This is a practical course. In each session, various functional and lexical exponents will be presented that will be practiced in conversations in pairs or in groups. Likewise, the intonation, rhythm and correct production of sounds in Spanish will be presented and studied.

ASSESSMENT SYSTEM

Attendance and active participation in class: 40%   

Oral exam first part: 30%   

Oral exam second part: 30%   

Fluency and pronunciation shall be considered, as well as suitability for the communication situation and language accuracy required for the level.   

Students will receive a grade for each semester. The final grade for the course will be the average of both marks.

SYLLABUS

• Strategies and resources for participating in real conversations. High frequency functional exponents that are used to cope with everyday and formal conversations.  

• Vocabulary and colloquial expressions for speaking in everyday environments and out of necessity: the neighbourhood, the shops, the doctor's, the restaurant, etc.  

• Recognition and practice of various patterns of Spanish intonation; phonics, syllables and synalepha, rhythm; vowels and diphthongs; consonant articulation in Spanish: occlusives, fricatives, vibrants, liquids, nasal and affrictives. Essential considerations on varieties of Spanish.  

• Strategies and resources for participating with greater fluency in real conversations. Specific functions to develop the macrofunctions associated with spoken language: describe, explain, give your opinion, express likes and emotions, compare, assess. Differentiation of registers.  

• Current vocabulary and idiomatic expressions that are frequently used in various areas of everyday and professional life.  

• Intonation and its nuances. The syllable and rhythm in relation to intonation. Vowel sounds and consonant sounds. The place and mode of articulation of the most conflictive consonants in Spanish: labial, dental, alveolar, palatal, velar. Considerations on the main varieties of Spanish.
